Informed consent! Disclaimer: this is not a post bashing women who take or have taken birth control. You should be medically informed of all the pros and cons when it comes to putting something in your body. Birth control is not a cure for acne, endometriosis, PCOS and so forth nor does it 100% prevent pregnancy. It is a tool that can be helpful for some but damaging to others and you should have the information at hand to make an informed decision! Birth control doesn’t fix ovarian hormones, it shuts them down. If hormonal BC stops you from ovulating then it will stop your ovaries and brain hormones from work cyclically. A lot of the times BC is just a bandaid doesn’t get to the root of the issue.
I’ve been prescribed birth control for PCOS (literally been on the phone all day trying to fill it rn so it’s weird to see this post) but anyway, I’ve felt for years it’s not really solving my fucking problems but it’s the only thing they’ve ever offered to help
I’m sorry the medical system has failed you :( there is a great book called Beyond The Pill which is written by the doctor above. She goes into PCOS and holistic methods that can help it.
Also, I recommend these books as well x x x
I hope you can find a treatment that will either solve or help the symptoms you have. There’s other methods that don’t require pills which have helped women, many find that dietary changes have helped the most. Some women are allergic or sensitive to foods that they never noticed till they start learning about alternative medicine. It can also be environmental factors as well that play into hormonal imbalance. Either way, wishing you well.
@avesblues2 do you know about This Is Your Brain on Birth Control by Dr. Sarah Hill? I'm planning on buying it but wanted to see if you have any takeaways if you've already read it. Also I'll take a look at the other books you've posted
I actually have! I totally recommend it. The details she goes into about the influence by pharmaceutical companies and how it impacts doctors and what they tell their patients is insane! Not only do you learn about the vicious cycle of greed in the medical realm (how big pharma funds medical schools hence they indirectly control academia and narratives) but she also goes into depth about our hormonal system and reproductive system and how they interact with the rest of our body. It’s a 10/10. Learning about our bodies and how they work is true female empowerment. Women aren’t taught what contraceptives can do to your body and it’s about time we start getting educated on it! Jaw-dropping information. Even if you never been on bc you should read this.

"Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written." - John 21:25
Even if that was true, I wish at least a little more about Jesus was written. Even a single book about Jesus written by his disciples or anyone alive while he was on earth would be a lot better than we ended up with.
